The Gunbarrel Highway is one of Australia’s most famous roads
being the first of many desert tracks built by surveyor Len Beadell.
Today, this track remains isolated and remote. Our adventure tour
departs from Carnarvon where we travel alongside the Gascoyne
River to Gascoyne Junction and soon after head south east to Meekatharra and Wiluna, the starting point of the Gunbarrel
Highway and the Canning Stock Route. We spend the next 5 days
travelling the 1,400 odd kilometres of the first of the “Bomb Roads”
made by Len Beadell.
We see all the sights along the way, find and locate plaques, original bores and blaze trees. We see wild camels, dingoes and birdlife, historic ruins and remote stations. We camp in some of the most remote and beautiful parts of Australia, enjoying magical nights under the stars. We visit Everard Junction, the Giles weather station and Docker River before arriving at Uluru where we visit the famous rock and the Olgas.
Our final days journey is along the Bituman to Alice Springs arriving
early afternoon.
